Rating System

Highly Recommended means Wow! Awesome! Must See!

Recommended ranges from pretty darn good to just average.

Not Recommended pretty much means it sucks.

Not Rated means it was so bad I can't even describe how bad it was.

Drama

THE HOURS: Starring Nicole Kidman, Julienne Moore and Meryl Streep. Awesome movie! A tear-jerker but, actually, a "happy" ending. It's a liberating type movie as it tells the story of 3 diffferent women from 1920's, 1950's and present day with a common theme tying them together. Not necessarily a "chick flick" but most would consider it that way. Highly Recommended.

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN: Starring Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio. There is only one swear word in the entire movie. Great story telling. A good movie for the entire family. I never read the book but I think I will now. Excellent!! Highly Recommended.

REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES: Starring many unknown actors. This is an excellent indie film with some comedic moments. A great movie that translates well into any culture as there are many universal familial issues, especially the mother/daughter relationship. Boy, is that ever true. Highly recommended for any age.

WHITE OLEANDER: Starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Rene Zellweger. Not quite what you might expect after seeing the trailer but not bad. Never read the book so don't know how it compares. This movie is Recommended if you like this style of film.

ONE HOUR PHOTO: Starring Robin Williams. Wow. Robin is amazing in this movie. This is a creepy one but worth it. Highly Recommended.

THE GOOD GIRL: Starring Jennifer Aniston. I know what you're thinking but it's good despite Jennifer. I like Jennifer but it is hard to think about her outside of Friends. Anyway, not at all what I was expecting. Critics are talking about an Oscar for her...I don't know about that, I mean, she wasn't that great but she was good and so was the movie. Kind of scary though if you're from small town TX. I mean, we know some people like that....now that's scary. Highly Recommended.

I AM SAM: Starring Sean Penn; Michelle Pfeiffer: box of tissues kind of movie but very good. Recomended.

BEING HUMAN: Starring Robin Williams: Pure Hell! What more can I say. I love, absolutely LOVE, Robin Williams but this movie is like chinese water torture. Not Rated.

ORDINARY PEOPLE: Starring Timothy Hutton; Donald Sutherland & Mary Tyler Moore. One of my absolute favorite movies of all time! Definitely tissue time. A downer of a movie with a semi-happy ending. Great acting! May not be for everyone, though. I've been told I'm odd for really liking this one but I don't care. Recommended.

Suspense

SIGNS: Starring Mel Gibson. The ending, well, not so good. But, overall, good movie. Wasn't really sure what to expect but, generally, I liked it. Recommended if you're into that kind of movie or Mel Gibson.

THE USUAL SUSPECTS: Starring Stephen Baldwin, Gabriel Byrne, Kevin Spacey, et al. Excellent movie. Great suspense with twists and turns. Never know where it's going to take you. Great writing and acting. Highly Recommended

INSOMNIA: Starring Robin Williams, Al Pacino and Hillary Swank. Wow! Great movie and Robin was awesome as the bad guy. Way to go. Not sure I can really give it a highly recomended but definitely worth seeing. Recommended.

Action/Adventure

PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN: Starring Johnny Depp, Orlando (sigh) Bloom and Geoffrey Rush. What a pleasant surprise. I really wasn't expecting this movie to be very good but it exceeded expectations. Johnny Depp makes the greatest pirate. It was serious but very funny at the same time. Highly entertaining and a great summer movie but it's not one of the ten best of all time. Recommended.

THE ITALIAN JOB: Starring Mark Wahlberg, Ed Norton and Charlize Theron. What can I say except I felt super duper seeing them drive their mini coopers. Great chase scenes! Plot was ok. Good summer movie. Recommended

EXTREME OPS: Starring a cast of unknowns. Wow. What can I say but this was a horrificly [funny] bad movie. You know what I mean, the MST3K kind of movie. Not rated unless you really like to watch extreme skiing and snowboarding or are a masochist.

DIE ANOTHER DAY: Starring Pierce Brosnan, Halle Berry and a cameo by Madonna. First of all, it stars Pierce, what more do you need? Second, it's Bond, what more do you need to say? Finally, Madonna has a great title song and is pretty cute in her roll. All that aside, it's a good film, it's techno bond and is highly recommended definitely!

BLUE CRUSH: Starring 3 P-Y-T's. Actually not a bad movie, especially if you're into surfing or a wannbe surfer. The action shots were great. It's not only amazing how they surf but how the camera guys do those shots!Recommended

MIB II: Starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. Not nearly as good as the first one but a good summer movie. Love the worms. Recommended.

SPIDERMAN: Starring Toby Maguire, Kristin Dunst and William Dafoe. Not a bad movie but how can you go wrong with Toby....he's so sweet and cute! And, Bruce Campbell is in it, briefly, for all you Army of Darkness and Evil Dead fans. This is my BOOM-stick! Anyway, back on track. I recomended it for mindless entertainment.

THE SUM OF ALL FEARS: Starring Ben Affleck, Morgan Freeman. Big yawn. Not recommended.

THE BOURNE IDENITY: Starring Matt Damon and some girl. Excellent movie. Realisic, too (he looks at mpas). Highly Recommended

Fantasy/Sci-Fi

TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES: Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. A few funny lines but basically pretty bad. Kill the machines, please! Terminate this movie! Not recommended

X2:X-MEN UNITED: Starring Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos. Just as good as the first movie. Of course, I just love Jean-Luc (I mean Patrick Stewart). Recommended

HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS: Starring all the orginal cast and crew: very good if you like this kind of movie, saw the first one and/or read all the books (which I have). Great graphics! Can't wait for the next one. Highly Recommended for the above reasons

LORD OF THE RINGS: TWO TOWERS: Starring Elijah Woods, et al. Better than the first movie but that's not saying much if you read my review of that movie. However, the Ints were won-der-ful!!! If it weren't for the Ints the movie would be as bad or worse than the first. Recommended for most people.

LORD OF THE RINGS: Starring Elijah Woods: cinematography was fab! Acting was great! Special effects were pretty nifty. However, if you ever need a sleeping aid, just watch this movie. You'll be out in no time. Sorry, never could get into the books and the movie wasn't much better. At least I know I can skip part two and go straight to the end of part 3 to find out what happens. Recomended. for most people but not me.

STAR WARS: Only watchable if you're already a fan otherwise a yawner...but nothing like Lord of the Rings. Qualified recommended

Black Comedy

ABOUT SCHMIDT: Starring Jack Nicholson. Not quite a true black comedy but it is a little dark. It's an odd little indie film. I liked it but I like odd. Not a mainstream movie. Qualified recommended

PUNCH DRUNK LOVE: Starring Adam Sandler. Definitely not your typical Sandler movie. Very odd. Hard to tell if it was good or not as there really didn't seem to be a story or plot. It was just, sort of, there...to watch. Not sure what to rate it but I guess i would say Recommended only if you like odd, indie films.

Romantic Comedy

TWO WEEKS NOTICE: Starring Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant. It was better than I expected but I was expecting really bad. Anyway, it's a typically cute Sandra movie. If you like Sandra you'll like it despite Hugh Grant. A qualified recommended.

MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING: Starring John Corbett and others. Very cute and funny movie. Light-hearted. What can I say, I like the indy films. I think anybody would enjoy this movie not just "chicks." A good couple movie. Recommended.

SWEET HOME ALABAMA: Starring Reese Witherspoon and Mathew McConahey. Very cute, especially if your from the south. Recommended

Comedy

LEGALLY BLONDE 2: RED, WHITE AND BLONDE: Starring Reese Witherspoon with Sally Field, Bob Newhart and Luke Wilson. Not as good as the first one but still pretty cute. If you liked the first one, the second one is cute but I think they tried too hard. Recommended.

FINDING NEMO: Starring the voices of Albert Brooks, Ellen Degeneres and William Dafoe. It's a Pixar film (Toy Story, Monster's Inc)....need I say more? Highly Recommended

BRUCE ALMIGHTY: Starring Jim Carrey, Jennifer Aniston and Morgan Freeman. Pretty funny. Jim Carrey seems to be hit or miss but this one works. Recommended

A MIGHTY WIND: Starring Michael McKeon, Eugene Levy. Brought to you by the same people who did Best in Show & This is Spinal Tap. Really, really funny and we probably missed a lot since we weren't of that "era." Indie film that, once again, prooves that most indies are just fab! Highly Recommended

BULLETPROOF MONK: Starring Chow Yun-Fat and Sean William Scott. Actually pretty cute and funny. Chow doesn't take himself too seriously, thank goodness, but he does have his signature 2 fisted guns. Crouching Tiger effects. Summer time movie. Recommended

BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE: Starring Steve Martin, Queen Latifah and Eugen Levy. It wasn't too bad. Eugene and Steve were wonderful!! Makes for a better matinee or rental than full price. Qualified Recommended

OLD SCHOOL: Starring Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn. Pretty darn funny. A re-made Animal House is the best way to describe it. If you liked Animal House then you will like this. Recommended

DRUMLINE: Starring no one I knew. If you like marching bands and, specifically, drum corps then you will enjoy this movie. The story line is alright but not outstanding but a decent film nonetheless. Qualified recommended

THE SANTA CLAUSE 2: Starring Tim Allen. Very cute movie. I never saw the first one but after seeing this movie I guess I'll hvae to rent number one. Good family film. Recommended

SHANGHAI KNIGHTS: Starring Owen Wilson and Jackie Chan. Not terrible but not really good either. Jackie is getting older so he can't do as much as he used to so his movies are starting to focus on storyline and other upcoming martial artist/actors. Not recommended

GOLDMEMBER: Starring Mike Myers (in several roles) and Beyonce. Very funny!! Especially if you are an Austin Powers fan! However, I did not find this one quite as funny as one and two but it's up there. The beginnning is just hilarious! You have to see it to understand. Highly Recommended

CROC HUNTER COLLISION COURSE: Starring Steve Irwin, Terri Irwin & a couple of crocs et. al. Not a great movie but if you love Steve, like I love Steve, you will like this movie. I already saw it twice. Very cute! I even saw the making of the movie. I know, I'm pathetic. But, this movie is definitely Recommended.

AMELIE: French, subtitled, indy film. Very funny and cute! Feel good movie! Hilariously "evil." Recommended but not highly since not everyone likes subtitled films and it does get a tad slow in the middle.

UNDERCOVER BROTHER: Starring Chris Katan, Eddie Griffin, Denise Richards and Neil Patrick Harris. A cross between Airplane and Shaft. In your face funny but subtle, too. Beware of the "hidden" and older jokes. Recommended.

DIVINE SECRETS OF THE YA-YA SISTERHOOD: Starring Sandra Bullock, Ashley Judd, James Garner and a cast of many others. Obviously a chic flick but some guys might not find it too bad. In fact, Keith enjoyed it for the quips and jabs at each other. Not a fabulous movie but good, nonetheless. Recommended

Musicals

CHICAGO: Starring Rene Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Richard Gere. Actually, not a bad movie considering it has the Zeta woman in it. There are some slow parts but overall it is a good movie. I recommend seeing it.
